POLITICAL EVENTS of PATRIOTISM

Post  Anton I. Frederalicks on 2011-12-05, 20:32

Annapolis Convention!! Otherwise known as the "Meeting of Commissioners to Remedy Defects of the Federal Government". Aptly named!!

The following states attended:
New Jersey
New York
Pennsylvania
Delaware
Virginia

Twelve delegates arrived to debate the issue of STATE BOUNDARIES and their LIMITING AFFECTS on INDEPENDENT STATE TRADE. They felt that not enough DELEGATES attended to make a proper decision, so they adjourned and called for the PHILADELPHIA CONVENTION of 1787.

Even though the convention was proposed to revise the Articles of Confederation, many great minds intended to create a new government. The convention focused on how representation would be shared, laws concerning the president, slaves, and who the judges should be chosen by. Surprisingly, the powers of the different branches were not heavily disputed here.

Our governor, John Dickinson, was at first opposed to the Constitution, but realized that, over time, it was necessary to create a more stable government. He played a major role in Delaware's pioneering steps into federalism.

All of this was sprouted from the series of rebellions that Daniel Shays took charge of...

And the delegates! Richard Bassett, Gunning Bedford, George Read, Jacob Broom and John Dickinson... all FEDERALISTS! How is this a good representation of our state?!
